The difference is that iFixit has been around for a while and so will probably honor a warranty claim. I haven't used an iFixit battery, but I bet it's EXACTLY the same batteries being sold by everyone else. They are probably no different from the OWC battery. So my suggestion - buy any battery that has a bunch of reviews on Amazon or Ebay. OWC probably knows their batteries will just balloon and fail after a year so they'll never have to warranty any of their batteries - just the ones they ship DOA. However, with the ultra short 1 year warranty, it's probably pointless anyways. The only difference is that OWC has been around a while in terms of being a brand, so maybe you have a chance to get a replacement battery if the one you get fails. Based on my experience, it's no different from any other aftermarket battery out there in terms of lifetime, charge capacity, or failure rates. In February 2022 (just a few weeks ago) the bottom of my A1398 mid-2015 Macbook Pro ballooned outward because the OWC battery failed - less than a 1 year and a half after I installed it.ĭon't be fooled: The OWC battery is just a Newertech Battery made-in-China OEM which has a 1 year limited warranty.
